I want to paint the ache of duration.

How what is here and what is gone refuse to separate. How self and other share a body. How the familiar grows strange under time. How intimacy rehearses its own disappearance. How mortality persists in the smallest habits. How we become what we look at and what we remember. How the life we have lived shadows the life we are living.

I seek neither irony nor sweetness, but to hold tenderness and discomfort together, to show life as I believe it to be, a terror and a gift.
